Jacques Martin Barzun ( franska Jacques Martin Barzun , 30 november 1907, Frankrike - 25 oktober 2012, USA ) är en amerikansk kulturhistoriker , publicist , lärare. Emeritus professor vid Columbia University . Författare till många böcker.
Biografi
Född i Creteiler nära Paris . Sedan 1920, i USA, dit han flyttade med sin mor, och dit hans far var från 1917 på ett diplomatiskt uppdrag.
Utexaminerad från Columbia University (BA och MA). Han disputerade där 1932 med en avhandling om Montesquieu, som låg till grund för hans första bok, utgiven samma år. Från 1928 undervisade han i historia vid sin alma mater, från 1937 var han professor, han var dekanus och vicerektor, från 1975 gick han i pension, emeritus . 1996 flyttade han från New York till San Antonio, Texas, där han dog.
Sedan 1933, amerikansk medborgare. Gifte sig första gången 1931 och skilde sig 1936. Samma år gifte han sig en andra gång, från detta äktenskap finns det tre barn, sedan 1979 är han änkeman. 1980 gifte han sig för tredje gången.
Jacques Barzins sista verk är den imponerande boken From Dawn to Decline: 500 Years of the Cultural History of the West Enligt B. Paramonov , västvärldens sammanbrott, som ledde till den nuvarande nedgången, dekadensen, betecknar Barzen 1914 som året för första världskrigets utbrott, vilket, enligt honom, skingrade den "stora illusionen" - den Västerländsk myt om progressiva kulturella framsteg [15] .
