National Museum of American History , eller Kenneth Behring Center ( eng.  The National Museum of American History, Kenneth E. Behring Center ) - ett museum beläget i centrala Washington ( USA ) på National Mall , är en integrerad del av Smithsonian Institution . Museet samlar, bevarar och ställer ut USA:s arv inom social, politisk, kulturell och militär historia. Bland utställningarna i museet finns originalet till USA:s första nationella flagga ( eng.  Star-Spangled Banner ), som sjöngs i nationalsången, samt stolen där den populära amerikanska tv-karaktären från 1970-80-talet , Archibald (Archie) Bunker, gillade att sitta.

Historik

Institutionen öppnade sina dörrar 1964 som "Museum of History and Technology". 1980 döptes det om till "National Museum of American History" för att bättre återspegla dess nya uppdrag: att samla in, bevara, studera och tolka utställningar som speglar stadierna i det amerikanska folkets historia. Från 5 september 2006 till 21 november 2008 var museet under rekonstruktion, vars kostnad var 85 miljoner dollar [13] . Som ett resultat av rekonstruktionen skedde följande förändringar [14]  :
