2006 pekas verk i genrerna vallenato och cumbia tillsammans ut i en separat nominering till Latin Grammy Award.
Den internationella organisationen UNESCO inkluderade vallenato i sin "Representative List of the Imtangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Need of Urgent Protection" [1] .
