Jim Bowie [3] eller Buie [4] [5] ( eng. James Bowie ; 10 april 1796 - 6 mars 1836 ) var en amerikansk hjälte från Texasrevolutionen .
Biografi
Bowie, född i Kentucky , tillbringade större delen av sitt liv i Louisiana och tjänade sitt levebröd genom att sälja land och slavar som han köpte från Jean Lafitte i Galveston .
1827 sköts han och knivhöggs i ett slagsmål med sheriffen i staden Rapids Parish , som han dödade med en stor kniv med ett klippt blad (den så kallade " Bowie-kniven ").
1830 flyttade han till Texas , gifte sig med dottern till löjtnantguvernören där och tog mexikanskt medborgarskap. Under en sortie på jakt efter den förlorade gruvan i San Sabo, avvärjde Bowie och flera av hans kamrater en attack av en stor avdelning indianer, som fick berömmelse i hela Texas.
Med början av Texas kamp för självständighet ledde Bowie den lokala milisen i striderna om Concepción och den sk. " strid om hö " 1835. 1836 ledde Bowie försvaret av Alamomissionen i San Antonio . Alla försvarare av den belägrade fästningen dog i strid. Bowie var sängliggande av sjukdom, men före sin död lyckades han, som legenden säger, avfyra sina pistoler mot mexikanerna som trängde in i hans rum.
