John Richard (Dick) Vockeroth ( född  John Richard Vockeroth ; 2 maj 1928, Broderick, Saskatchewan  - 16 november 2012 , Ottawa ) är en kanadensisk entomolog . Diptera taxonom . _

Biografi

Walkeroth föddes den 2 maj 1928 i Broderick, Saskatchewan, Kanada. Han fick sin kandidatexamen (1948) och magisterexamen (1949) från University of Saskatchewan . Från 1949 till 1991 arbetade han på Canadian National Collection of Insects .  1954 avslutade han sin doktorsavhandling om sarkofagflugor vid University of Oxford . Han gick i pension 2009 [2] [3] .

Vetenskapliga landvinningar

Samlade en samling på cirka 200 000 Diptera-exemplar. Var världsexpert på flera familjer inklusive Mycetophilidae , Dolichopodidae , Syrphidae , Scathophagidae och Muscidae . Han beskrev 42 släkten och 130 arter av Diptera [3] .
