David Geoffrey Chandler ( 15 januari 1934 - 10 oktober 2004) var en brittisk historiker från Napoleontiden [ 1] .
Biografi
Han tjänstgjorde kort i armén som ung man, nådde graden av kapten, och fortsatte med att undervisa vid Royal Military Academy Sandhurst . 1991 fick han en doktorsexamen i Humane Letters från University of Oxford .
Som skrivet i David Chandlers dödsruna i The Daily Telegraph , är hans "omfattande redogörelse för Napoleons strider [ The Campaigns of Napoleon ] osannolikt att någonsin överträffas, trots närvaron av många rivaler (...) General de Gaulle skrev till Chandler att av hans beskrivning av en militär karriär Han överträffade alla andra författare av kejsaren" [2] .
Förutom forskning om Napoleonkrigen var Chandler också författare till en militärbiografi om hertigen av Marlborough och The Art of Warfare in the Age of Marlborough .
Chandlers arbete citeras flitigt i andra napoleonska historikers skrifter, inklusive på ryska.
