Temperance Seven

The Temperance Seven  är ett brittiskt jazzband som bildades 1955 och som specialiserat sig på humoristiska tolkningar av 1920-talsmusik. Temperance Sevens första hit "You're Driving Me Crazy" (#1 på UK Singles Chart ), följt av "Pasadena" (#4). [2]

I början av 1960-talet, i kölvattnet av jazzrenässansen, åtnjöt ensemblen, ledd av den flamboyante frontmannen Alexander Hitchcock Galloway , både mainstreamframgångar och kritikerros. Terry Jones, senare medlem av Monty Python , samarbetade med ensemblen på en gång . [3] 

Gruppen, som utvecklade traditionerna i den engelska musiksalen på sitt eget sätt , uppträdde ofta på teaterscenen , särskilt i Spike Milligans pjäs "The Bed-Sitting Room" [4] 1963 [5] [6 ] . 1966 spelade The Temperance Seven och uppträdde i filmen The Wrong Box. [3]

Den första uppställningen av gruppen bröts upp i mitten av 1960-talet, men i slutet av decenniet återupplivades projektet av Ian Howarth, som ledde gruppen fram till slutet av 1990-talet. [3] Flera medlemmar i originaluppställningen organiserade en återförening 2003 och uppträdde på BBC .
