Warnekaut ( Varnekaus ; lat.  Warnecautius ; avrättad 596 eller 597 , Pavia ) - Langobardisk hertig av Pavia fram till 596 eller 597.

Biografi

Warnecoute rapporteras i The History of the Lombards av Paul Deacon [1] [2] .

Warnecouth kallas inte en dux ( hertig ) i medeltida källor . Men moderna historiker tror att han kunde ha haft en sådan titel och vara härskare över Ticinus (moderna Pavia ) [3] [4] [5] . Den tidigare kända härskaren över denna domän var Zaban [6] , som nämndes på 570-talet .

På 590 -talet ägde flera stora uppror rum i Lombardriket mot kung Agilulf . De leddes av ädla och inflytelserika människor: 590-591 - hertig Mimulph av San Giulio , 591 eller 592 - hertig Ulfar av Trevisa , 596 eller 597 - hertigarna Zangrulf av Verona och Gaidulf av Bergamo [2] [3] [ 5 ] ] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] . Orsakerna till dessa uppror redovisas inte i medeltida skrifter . År 596 eller 597 gjorde Warnekaute också uppror mot Agilulf. Men kungen fångade hertigen i Pavia och avrättade [2] [3] [5] [12] .

Nästa berömda hertig av Pavia efter Varnekuat var Sundrarit, som nämndes under andra hälften av 610-talet [13] [14] .
