McGrath, James Frank

James Frank McGrath ( eng.  James Frank McGrath ; född 25 december 1972 [1] ) är en brittisk religiös och bibelforskare , specialist på tidig kristendom , mandaeism och religion inom science fiction . Han är en av författarna till Encyclopedia of the Bible and its Perception, Oxford Encyclopedia of the Bible and Ethics, Oxford Handbook of the Bible and Popular Culture, Handbook of Mandae Studies och Dictionary of Religious Studies.

Biografi

1993 tog han examen med utmärkelser från University of Cambridge med en examen i religionsvetenskap [ 2] .

1995 fick han en kandidatexamen i teologi med första klass utmärkelser , andra klass.vid University of London [2] .

Han fick sin doktorsexamen från Durham University 1998 med en avhandling under ledning av James Douglas Grant Dunn om Johannine Apologetic Christology : Legitimation and Development in John's Christology [2] [3] .

1998-2001 - biträdande professorNya Testamentet Immanuel University Oradeaoch University of Oradea[2] .

2001–2002 var han docent vid Biblical Theological Seminary .och Kristna missionsförbundets teologiska seminarium[2] .

Sedan 2002 har han varit professor i religion vid institutionen för filosofi, religion och klassiska studier [2] [4] och sedan 2010 är han chef för Clarence L. Goodwins institution för språk och litteratur i Nya testamentet vid Butler University [2] [4] [5] .

Medlem av American Academy of Religion (sedan 2010), medlem av American Oriental Society(sedan 2010), Medlem av Society for Biblical Literature(sedan 1998) och medlem av Society for New Testament Research(sedan 2011) [2] .

Vetenskaplig verksamhet

McGraths huvudsakliga forskningsverksamhet ligger inom området kristologi och den tidiga kristendomens historia , vilket återspeglades både i hans doktorsavhandling och monografin med samma namn som publicerades på grundval av den. Monografin The One True God: Early Christian Monotheism in Its Jewish Plane presenterade en syn på monoteismens och kristologins bredare utrymme i forntida judendom och kristendom. Medan monografin "What Jesus Learned from Women" utforskade temat för Jesu Kristi historiska person (i denna fråga är han en konsekvent kritiker av den mytologiska skolan ) och det inflytande som kvinnorna som nämns i evangelierna hade på honom [4] .

Ett annat ämne för McGraths forskning är mandeisternas gnostiska gemenskap och deras litteratur. Tillsammans med den religiöse och orientalisten Charles Höberlhan förberedde en två-volym innehållande en översättning, en kritisk utgåva och en vetenskaplig kommentar till den Mandaean Book of John, som blev den första upplagan på engelska av alla kända manuskript [4] .

Ett annat område av McGraths forskningsintressen är skärningspunkten mellan religion och science fiction . Om detta ämne skrev han monografierna "Teologi och science fiction" och " Slaget vid Ranskur Av Kolos " ( Black Archivenr 52). Dessutom är han redaktör och medredaktör för de kollektiva monografierna Religion och Science Fiction och Time and Relative Dimensions in Faith: Religion och Doctor Who [4 ] .
