Plot
Den svarta privatdetektiven Shaft vet hur man jobbar bäst på New Yorks gator. Han slåss mot kungen av Harlem, den svarta gangstern Bumpy, men tvingas snart slå sig samman med honom: folket i den "vita" maffian kidnappar Bumpys unga dotter.
