Oligosackarider (från grekiska ὀλίγος - få) är kolhydrater som innehåller från 2 till 10 monosackarider .
Oligosackarider som består av samma monosackarider kallas homoligosackarider, och de som består av olika monosackarider kallas heterooligosackarider.
De vanligaste av oligosackariderna är disackarider och trisackarider . Av kemisk natur är disackarider O-glykosider (acetaler), i vilka den andra monosackaridmolekylen fungerar som en aglykon. Beroende på strukturen delas disackarider in i två grupper: reducerande och icke-reducerande.
Den strikta nomenklaturen för oligosackarider är mycket besvärlig. Namnet på oligosackariden bildas enligt typen av O-substituerade derivat av monosackarider, baserat på namnet på den reducerande enheten, vilket indikerar alla tillgängliga substituenter; för icke-reducerande oligosackarider liknar nomenklaturen den för glykosider. Namnen på linjära oligosackarider använder ofta en sekventiell uppräkning av monosackaridrester med en indikation på typen av samband mellan dem.

Många oligosackarider är kristallina fasta ämnen eller icke-kristalliserande siraper, vita eller färglösa, mycket lösliga i vatten , svårlösliga i lägre alkoholer och praktiskt taget olösliga i andra vanliga lösningsmedel, med undantag för dimetylformamid , formamid och dimetylsulfoxid . Vid förhöjda temperaturer är de lägre oligosackariderna lösliga i ättiksyra och pyridin . Vissa högre ogrenade vanliga oligosackarider såsom cellodextriner är svåra att lösa i vatten, och deras löslighet minskar snabbt med ökande molekylvikt. Många oligosackarider har en söt smak [1] .
I det fria tillståndet är oligosackarider mest representerade i växtvärlden , där de, uppenbarligen, främst spelar rollen som reservkolhydrater . De karakteristiska och vanligaste representanterna för växtoligosackarider är oligosackarider från sackarosgruppen : melicitos , raffinos , gentianos , stachyose , etc.
Vissa oligosackarider, såsom sackaros , är av stor praktisk betydelse och när det gäller årlig produktion (över 100 miljoner ton), upptar de en av de första platserna bland enskilda organiska föreningar . Laktos och cyklodextriner produceras i små mängder och används inom läkemedelsindustrin .
